STANDARD IV STAR

A SCHOOL ENTERPRISE INGENIOUS MONTHLY READER; The pupils of standard IV in the Whakatane Primary School have set a high standard of enterprise in the publication of a cyclostyle circular (call it a journal if you wish), which is appearing monthly under the title 'The Standard IV Star.' We have been sent one of the first issues for comment and can only say that as an exclusively school effort the result is exceptionally good. The versatility of the pupils is shown by the various contributions which range from simple essays on local subjects, to playettes, riddles, short poems and even recipes for sweet-making. But we were particularly taken with the sketches by Gay Buvt, C S., 8.5., and E.H. We take pleasure in reproducing a sample which should be of interest even to adults, and will reserve the rest for the children s corner on Fridays, I Robin Hood. I (Patricia Boswell) Robin Hood was a knight so bold Who lived in the gay old days of old He fought for his King and his people too And showed his men what he could do. He wore a suit of Lincoln green And with him Friar Tuck was seen. Maid Marion Avas a lady fair Who came to see her Robin the/re. King .Richard came home from the wars to stay, He said "Robin and Marion must wed this day." The palace was full of joy and laughter, And they lived happily ever after.
