HAIL, CALEDONIA!
THE CLANS GATHER SOCIETY'S INGLESIDE Once again the King Street Hall ■ was filled with a happy throng of > dancers last Friday evening Avlien ' the Whakatane Caledonian Society's popular monthly Ingleside took place. Scots from all parts rallied and made the evening a gay one. The Pipe Band, as usual, was in attendance and supplied the music for many of the dances, while Mrs s K. Armstrong's full orchestra provided the swing for the modern numbers. With regard to the latter, it is pleasing to note that its services on this occasion were, given free as a donation to the Socicty. The'usual programme of items and dances was observed, the artists being Misses P. and C. Cottreli (xluets); Miss Marion Raymond I (solos); Miss I-sobel Martih (dance, Scan T'rubhais); the performers receiving well merited applause. Supper was in the hands of "the capable Caledonian ladies commitee, organised by 'the honorary secretary, Mrs Berry, and was .all that could be desired; During .this interval popular. extras were played by Mr B<?.rt Cottreli; Chief Sympns carried out the duties of M.C., with the able assistance of Bandsman Stan West. Friday Night's Programme. By way of assisting the local patriotic effort, the Caledonian Society, on Friday evening, November 1, will stage an open-air entertainment in the Strand, thus taking an action similar to that of the Citizens' Band a fortnight ago. I't is intended to give approximately one and a half hours programme and the proceedings will include, apart from selections and items by the Pipe Band, . duets, humorous sketches, individual dancing by children and an exhibition Fling and Reel. It is also hoped to present several Scottish choruses.
The whole evening promises to provide a novel feature on the shopping night and this should be widely appreciated^ ST. ANDREW'S NIGHT BIG RALLY PLANNED The Caledonian Society proposes to mark St. Andrew's night, Saturday, November 30, with a special rally of South Auckland bands and Society members in > the Winter Show Hall. Invitations have been extended to the Rotorua, Tauranga, Te Arolia, Morrinsville, Cambridge and Paeroa Societies and bands and it is understood that at least two other bands have intimated their intention of being present.
