MAMMITIS TYPES
Sir,—Mammitis is undoubtedly an udder trouble. I often wonder how many experts have ever delved, into the whys and wherefores. The first organism is the Strep Mastitis Migula, growing under all sorts of conditions. First, the Alpha strep, if grown on blood agar, shows a green (Septicaemic) halo; the Beta shows two haloes and the Gamma is similar to the Beta only that it does not hydrolize sodium hippurate. The next we come to is the Staphyloccal Organism: although, of a small percentage it is disiastrous. - We finish up with the Coli, always found in the excreta of humans antl animals. This organism upsets the balance of lactic acid, whether it be right-or left-handed (sometimes referred to as 'the dairyrnairs friend').. In cheese making this is one of the" factory manager's greatest' enemies., If this organism is grown on EosinMethylene Blue Agar you will always find the dolonifis finish by turn ing b|ue. This is the worst „of the Coliform group.
