PUBLIC CO-OPERATION REQUESTED RIFLES TO BE EXAMINED A reminder is given to owners of .303* rifles and revolvers of .45 calibre that these firearms should bo taken to the local police station for examination. The purpose of this request is to ascertain if any such weapons held would be suitable for military purposes in the defence of the country, and if owners will treat this matter as urgent it will be of considerable assistance to the National Defence movement. There is no question of confiscation of the firearmsj, but the co-op-eration of the public will relieve the police of a great deal of work and travelling costs and time. So far one hundred and fifty rifles have been examined! at the Whakatane Police Station. Approximately forty have yet to be brought in.
