A HIGHER PAYOUT
BUTTERFAT FOR NEXT SEASON WAGES HAVE RISEN 5 PER CEJNT Unanimous support witli the Auck land executive's demand for a higher butterfat payout for the next season was given by the T'e ArohaWaihou Branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union at a meeting last week. The action of asking for a higher paj r out came as a result of the 5 per cent increase in Avages for |n-/ dustrial workers,, it was stated. It was unfair that the industrial workers should receive, an increase in wages and the farmers have to bear the brunt of it, and this would eventually be the case, said Mr E. H. Western, who went on to say that the Minister of Finance liad called the chief officials of the Farmers' Union together for a conference some 18 months ago, and the Minister had given the assurance that industrial workers would not receivc any increases without a corresponding increase .for farmers. "We have kept to our side of the bargain and the Government has failed to do its bit," added Mr Western, Increase a Pity. The opinion that the rise in wages was a great pity, was expressed 1)3- members. Surely, said Mr Western, with every increase of Is so will the cost of living become Is 2d. He would not be surprised to see further increases in wages until the blind worker' would take a tumble to the position.
