MISUNDERSTANDING
COLLECTION OF SCRAP METAL ARRANGEMENTS IN HAND Last Friday's sub-leader complain ing that no steps had been taken to collect the scrap metals in this district in furtherance of the Government's appeal was based on wrong premises, and we have 110 hesitation in taking appropriate steps to correct any wrong impressions which may have resulted. The upshot of the article concerned was due to the number of persons within the Borough ringing up arid complaining that they had quantities of the metals required by the Government and as yet knew of no avenue for disposal. As reported in the BEACON a week ago, we . were conversant with the ar-
rangements made for the county but failed to understand that the district committee dealing with the matter included operations within the Borough of Whakatane. We have learnt sinci -JJmt such is the case and that arrangements will he made in the near future for the collection of all the accumulated waste metals within both County and Boroughs Under the circumstances we beg leave to withdraw our criticism and request the authorities' to |) j. cept our apology for the misunderstanding.
