EDGECUMBE BRANCH MEETS m — • meeting -of the Edge■cumbe held, with members present from Otakiri,, Matata, Manawahe and Waimana Institutes to hear an address by Mrs Wool field President of the Federation., on the Dominion Council meeting held in Wellington. The Conference which was to be held this year has been cancelled and the money which ■would have been spent has been donated to the Government as a gift for war purposes. A Scottish reading was given by Mrs A. Thomson. A competition ■was Avon by Mrs Cummings and another by Mrs Fowell. Mrs Cowie played accompaniments for community singing of Scottish songs. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs 'Thomson and Mrs L. Wilson assisted by members of the committee. Competition results were: Marmalade: Mrs Snelling 1, Mrs Poole 2. Shortbread: Mrs Fowell 1. Bestmended Garment: Mrs Fowe}] 5. Best Flower: Mrs Pepperell 1, Mrs Fowell 2.
