L PRESENTATIONS TO SOLDIERS A large attendance of local rcsil dents and visitors from outside dis- ; tricts attended "a farewell evening : held in the Anzac Hall, Ruatoki, on Saturday 10th inst, on the occasion ' of the departure of Lieut. G. San- > ton and Sgt. W. P. Rangi of the l Third Echelon for service overseas, i The function was held under the 1 auspices of the Tulioe Soldiers' Com- ' mittee and the Ruatoki Ladies Club. Teihi Hawiki, Hauwai Tiakiwai ; and Rev. W. Rangi, as elders rep- ' resenting the Tnhoe tribes, welcom- " ed the outside visitors and approi priate addresses were delivered to ■ the departing guests. Mrs J. Merritt, President of the 5 Club, made the presentations, Lieut G. Santon receiving a Maori carved 3 cigarette box and Sgt W. P. Rangi r being presented with a set of milii tary hair brushes. Both recipients , responded. ; Mrs Koliine Ponika and T. Turei r rendered very enjoyable; items duri ing the evening and the music was - supplied by G. Webb's dance band.
