TWO FIRES
BRIGADE CALLED TO ONE A fire which started at the foot •of the hill, near Messrs Hall and Howat's property in Commerce ' Street, swept a considerable area of "the cliff face on Wednesday. Apart 'from the black scar now marring ' Whakatane's beauty, no damage was /done. At 2.45 p.m. on Wednesday the "Fire Brigade ivas called to an outbreak on an. area at the junction of Anzac Avenue and Salonika Street. Pampas was well ablaze when the Brigade arrived but the flames w r ere extinguished with little trouble.
