TROUBLE IN STREET FARMER FIXED At the Opotiki Court, before Messrs G. D. Clark and F. J. Short J.P.'s. a farmer, George Hudson, f.vas charged that on the 20th inst he was found in Main Street using obscene language and with assaulting Rene Hudson. Accused elected to be dealt with summarily and Mr Hei entered pleas of guilty on all charges. Sergeant J. Isbister prosecuted and stated that the police received a message that there was a disturbance in Main Street. Constable Cooper went to the scene. The language complained of could be heard some distance. Mr Hei, on behalf of the accused, said that it was regrettable such a state of affairs had come about between man and wife. The whole of the responsibility rested on drink. Accused had been assaulted by his wife. Mr Hei suggested that al prohibition order be issued against accused. Hudson was an industrious and successful farmer but drink was his enemy. The bench pointed out that the charges were serious. Accused had three previous convictionsa nd m each case drink was the. cause of the trouble. The last offence was in 1937. They were prepared to giv<i consideration simply on account of accused's family. It would be his ■ast chance. I I On the first charge, accused was 'convicted. He was convicted and fined £5 on the second count, being granted one month to pay the fine. ! On the third count he was convicted and discharged and ordered to take out a prohibition order.
