HE WAS WRONG
ERROR COST MAORI £5 INCIDENT IN FISH SHOP Messrs: G. A. Brabant and R. W. Sehofield, Justices, were on the Bench on Monday morning when Pene Natuku appeared to answer a charge of using obscene language within the hearing of persons in n public place on Saturday, June 22. Accused elected to be dealt with summarily and pleaded guilty. Sergeant M. Farrell said" that at about 5 p.m. on Saturday accused went into the fish shop owned by Peter Smaljeon, in the Strand, to purchase lish. Accused disputed the price of the fish and used the language complained of to the lady shop assistant. A number of people were in the vicinity. The Sergeant said that Natuku had ha):l a few drinks. When asked if he had anything to say accused murmured: "I was wrong." "Using language like that is very wrong," observed the Bench, "and is very serious. You'are liable to f. fine of £20 or twelve months' im-? prisonment. You will be fined £> and costs, in default ten days' gaol"
