BURGLARS ACTIVE
SHOP BROKEN INTO VERY LITTLE STOLEN The premises of Messrs George Dawson, Ltd., of Opotiki, were broken into on Sunday night, and it is believed that a lady's overcoat was stolen. Other articles may be missing but at present it is not possible to estimate the extent of the burglary. Access was gained by breaking through the thin wallboaid above the front doorway of the ladies' department, and by climbing into the window. An attempt had been made to enter by breaking the ceiling over the doorway of the men's department, but apparently the intruder realised that he would be afforded little support there. A surprising feature of the burglary is that although the intruder passed right through the sho>p and out through the rear door, no monev or other valuable goods were removed from the tills. The only trace that a person had been in this portion of the building was that three spent matches and the top off a soft-drink bottle were found on the floor. The police are investigating.
