BAY OF PLENTY PRESBYTERY MEETING IN WHAKATANE A Call to the Rev. H. Hogg of Opohu, Dunedin, was presented from Knox Church, Whakatane. signed by 123 members and 23 adherents when tile Bay of Plenty Presbytery met recently in Whakatane. The Call was sustained and forwarded to the Dunedin Presbytery. In the event of the Call being accepted, the induction of the Rev. H. Hogg to Knox Church,, would take place on July 17th at 7.30 p.m. The Rev. J. FI. Starnes, 8.A., recently inducted to the Rangitaiki Charge was warmly welcomed bv the Moderator on taking bis seat in Presbytery for the first time. The following motions were passed:— Attitude towards war.—ln the pre sent critical war situation Presbytery urges Ministers and people to remain calm and confident in the justice of our cause, and to seek from God by His word, by prayer, and the faithful' performance of duty, that poise of spirit and mind, which can be derived in Strength and Constancy only from spirtiaul sources. By trust in, and reliance upon the Eternal God, revealed in the Life,, Cruciflcatioxi and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and by the continual help of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, the way will be prepared for the ultimate triumph of right over mdglit. Treatment of Enemies".—That this Presbytery while not wishing to ehbarrass the' Government in its work of dealing with aliens, would urge upon it to take all necessary steps, to safeguard the true interests of both the people of this land and also of the aliens within this land. •- Permits for Raffling.—That where as the Government is offering an increased number of' permits for raffling, and whereas our Clitrrchhas set its face again them, asbeing just a form of gambling, this Presbytery calls upon all Christians in general and members of our own Church in particular,, to refrain from the purchase of tickets in raffles, and give to worthy causes generously, and thus discourage the insidious dissemination of the gambling spirit. That Presbytery approach- Patriotic Societies urging them to give persons not approving of raffles, the opportunity of direct giving:
