MORE AIR RAIDS IN BRITAIN FIGHTING CONTINUES IN FRANCE COALITION GOVERNMENT FOR THE U.S.A. Further enemy raids on Britain have been reported and these have covered areas in the east, south-east, and northwest parts of England, over Wales and some parts of Scotland. In the latest raids little material damage was done but cas ualties numbered eight killed and sixty injured. m ' * » • A statement by the Minister in Charge of Aircraft Production, Lord Beaverbrook, reveals that Britain has more 'planes now than when Germany invaded the Low Countries and! more heavy machines had been built than had been lost. s s ss m The Royal Air Force was again active in bombing military objectives in Germany, particularly in the Ruhr, Rhine land and Western Germany. Aeroplanes ot the Coastal Command have bombed objectives on the German and Dutch coasts. The situation in France is obscure. It is known that the French Army is still resisting but enemy units have advanced to the Swiss frontier in some places. Some French troops have crossed the Swiss frontier and have been interned* Bordeaux, the seat of the French Government, which was crowded with refugees, was heavily bombed and there were many casualties. There have been no details of the negotiations reported to be taking place between the German High Command and the French Government. ■ « • • In a broadcast address, Marshal Petain, French Premier, •declared that too few children, too few arms, and too few Allies was the cause of the defeat [According to the French radio the country's attitude is stiffening against surrendering to Ger many. m as * » For the first time in its history, the United States o>f America is to have a Coalition Government. The President, Mr Franklin D. Roosevelt, has announced that he has invited two prominent members of the Republican Party, Mr Henry Simson and Colonel Frank Knott to take posts in the Cabinet. Mr Simson is to be Secret try of State for War and Col-' onel Knott is to be Secretary of the Navy. Italians are reported to be sinking neutral ships, chiefly Greek. A French patrol vessel sank an Italian submarine. Egyptian troops have been withdrawn from the Libyan fron tier pending the Government's consideration of the position. The Royal Air Force is continuing to inflict damage oa Italian air bases, land troops, and military objectives. Since Italy entered the war over 60 'planes have been destroyed by the R.A.F.
