OBITUARY
MR HARRY JOHNSON The death occurred suddenly in Tauranga on Wednesday of a wellknown and popular figure in the Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, and Putaruru districts in the person of MiHarry J.P. Although he retired from active 'forestry work two 01* three years ago, the late Mr Johnson was best known for his work in connection with the organisation of Perpetual Forests Ltd., now known as Forest Products Ltd. He was one of the first directors of the founding company, and later occupied the position of field manager, in which capacity he carried a large share of the responsibility for the organisa- , tion and initial progress of one of ■ the Dominion's largest proprietory , forestry undertakings. The late Mr Johnson saw service ; in the last Avar, and was, for a per- ■ iod, an army gymnastic and physi- , cal instructor. He was a keen ath- . lete in his younger days,'and enjoyed considerable success as a runner. He was also a finished expon- ' ent of jiu jitsu.. In his later years he was keenly interested in golf, shooting and fishing. His wide interests and sociable disposition creat ed for him a very wide circle of friends in all parts of the district, and the news of his sudden death came as a shock to them. Mr Johnson had not enjoyed very good health prior to his removal to Taur*anga. He is survived by his widow and by the two daughters of his first marriage, who reside iUi Auckland. The funeral "will take place at Tauranga to-day.
