DUTCH NOTE ON INDIES

The Dutch Government has informed Britain, Australia, Japan and America that no outside assistance is desired or required in maintaining the independence of the Dutch. East Indies.

The Minister for External Affairs (Mr McEwen) made this announcement in the House of Representatives in Canberra recently.

Although the Dutch Government was now in London, it ' had given

the Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies complete authority regarding the colonies. Adequate forces were there to maintain internal safety, including the major por-+ tion of the Dutch fleet.
