ENGINEER'S REPORT
REVIEW OF THE MONTH The Borough Electrical Engineer, Mr F. W.. Lysag.ht, reported to the meeting of the Borough Council as folloAvs:— - Main Sub-station Extensions: The installation of the 750 KVA trans- 1 former SAvitch gear, underground cable etc. has now been completed and the transformer is iioaa 7 in serA r ice. Ncav Secondary Lines in Salonika Street: The erection of neAV poles, cable etc. has uoav been completed in Salonika Street for the supply of poAA'cr for the ten neAV State houses being completed 'in this area. Douglas Street Sub-station: Ncav mains, sub mains and larger fuses are being installed at the Douglas Street sub-station to cope with the additional loading on Salonika Street mains. Pole Replacements: SeA r eral poles have been replaced in the Borough area during the month. The following iicav consumers installations have been connected to the supply also a number of alterations and additions: Lighting 2, Avater heaters 2, motors 3 (h.p. 41), ranges 2. Ncav Service Lines: One single phase service line in Victoria Ave-I nue to supply lighting and heating j Avas erected during the month. I Water Works Department: The j pumping plants have been in service every day during the month and are in fair order. Building Permits: The following building permits haA r e been issued during the month: —Ncav residences 2. sheds 3, motor garages 2. Total 7. The value of the above buildings being £2317 ss. Dangerous -Goods:; An inspection of all benzine storage depots Avas made during the month Avith the Government Inspector and all AA T ere found to be in a very satisfactory order. The Fire. .UnderAvritcrs' Electrical Inspector has also made a number of inspections during the month and all Avas found satisfactory. WORK IN BOROUGH Mr W. Henderson, Borough Foreman, presented his monthly report to the council at Monday night's meeting. It ran:— Hillcrest: Widening, to the extent of aA r ailable grant, is completed. FolloAving the. recent storm a large slip occurred on rock face. Material is being used for further Avidening of side fillings. Water Tables, Drains: Apanui area and Douglas-Salonika Street are being cleaned. Apanui storm Avater drain, main drain from flood gate to McGar\ r ey Road, Road drains and Maraetotara drain arc also being cleaned. BloAVOiits in mains have been repaired. 24" concrcte pipes for continuation of Apanui drain are being turned out. Fire plug signs AAere replaced and five boxes cleared. At least three, dozen neAV lire plug signs are required and haA r e been ordered. Plane trees are being pruned. Grass street sides throughout the borough has again been mowed and disposed of. Roads and streets graded. Considerable general maintenance AAork has been done during the month.
