OPENING OF THE SEASON SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT The Whakatane County Hockey Sub-Association opened their season with a seven-a-side tournament Avhich Avas held at Ruatoki last Aveek end. The Aveather AA*as beautifully fine and the spectators Avitnessed fast, spectacular hockey Avhich Avas very surprising as the players had no previous practice this season. Contrary to expectations, hockey in the district avill still be AA r orth Avatching as the younger blood in the replacement ranks slioaa's good promise and Avith a game or tAvo should equal or better the older hands. Hockey this season Avill be bright and Avilling in spite of Hitler and the enlistment of so many players. In the seven-a-side six teams com-, peted, Wairaka the neAV Whakatane team gained final honours and AA'ere presented with suitably engraved brooches, Hamua team from Ruatoki being second. FolloAvers of the game in Rangitaiki Avill Avitness good hockey next week-end as Whakatane and Wai•aka Avill meet Rangitaiki and Rangitaiki RoA r ers at Edgecumbe.
