WAR NURSE
REFERENCE RECALLED LETTER FROM A FRIEND Recalling the reference made in this paper some time ago to Mrs B. Briggs. a nurse during the Great War, a letter received by the BEACON from one signing herself "A Friend," gives some details of Mrs Briggs' career. Our correspondent states that the subject of her letter is averse to talking about herself. Mrs Briggs has just been awarded the St John Ambulance Association's 1918 Bronze Label (No. 206637) for addition to the Medallion awarded in 1916. Mrs Briggs was nursirjg from 1914 till 1918 and after that year she Avent to India and served on the North West frontier under Colonel Reinhold, 1/8 Punjab Regiment, stationed at Peshawar and Koliat. After service there she went through the Gliandi rising and had wide experience in isolated places over a period of almost two years, Mrs Briggs is at present staying at the Terrace Hotel, Taupo, but expects to be going overseas shortly, probably in a nursing unit, and "A Friend" concludes by wishing her every success in her undertaking.
