BOROUGH COUNCIL'S REPRESENTATIONS SCHOOL ACCOMMODATION QUESTION Replies have been received by the Borough Council from the Auckland Education Board and the Education Department relative to the strong representations made by the Council in regard to the i n a d e cj u a t e accommodation at the Whakatane School. These were tabled at the monthly meeting held on Monday night. The Auckland Education Board said that the position depended to some extent on the request for the establishment of a school at Ohope Beach. As requested by the Education Department the Board reccnthr asked the Whakatane School Com mittee for a report concerning the representations for the establishment of a school at the beach. Further consideration will be given the matter on receipt of the Committee's reply. The letter from the Education Department advised that the Board had completed the preparation of working plans and specifications for three class-rooms, a Library, a Commercial room, together with subsidiary accommodation. It was proposed to erect these as an addition to the Secondary Department building. The Department hopes to be in a position within the course of a few days to instruct the Auckland Education Board to invite tenders foir the proposed work. Matter for the Committee. In the ensuing discussion Cr Shapley said that the Council should take the matter up. It Avas of some concern when children had to attend school under such conditions. At least heating should be provided. Cr Otley said it Avas a matter for the School Committee rather than the Borough Council. The Committee appreciated the Council's support and Avas doing its best to have the matter pushed along.
