DESERTER ARRESTED

SMART WORK BY POLICE Acting on a military warrant receiA'ed at Whakatane on Friday morning, Sergeant M. Farrell and Constable F. M. Fuller effected the arrest of a deserter from the Nevi Zealand military forces early in the afternoon. It is understood that the man, a gunner in the artillery, was married on what Avas to be his final" leave. He then secured employment on a farm at Awalcaponga, where he Avas apprehended by the Whakatane police. He was held in custody over the Aveek-end and transferred to the Papakura camp on Mondaj 7, morning under military escort.
