THREE DEATHS

LOSS OF TUHOE TRIBE TANGI AT RUATOKI A happening unusual in the history of the Rewarewa Pa, Ruatokij, was occasioned by the deaths, within three days, of three prominent members of the Pa's community and the Tuhoe tribe. Mrs Mary Ponika Tihi, aged 41, died on Sunday and numbers of natives from, many liapus in a widespread area began to congregate for the tangi. The numbers of those attending the tangi was increased by the death -of Mr Makamaka Turuwhenura. aged 55, who was well known in the Ruatoki and Whakatane districts. This death was followed by that of Mrs Poho Paliiri, aged 75, who died yesterday. The funerals will take place to•day.
