POPPY SALES

LAST YEAR'S FIGURES LEFT FAR BEHIND RECEIPTS SOAR SINCE 1932 The sale of poppies in the Wha\ katane district (whi.cii embraces a wide area and includes Waimana, Galatea, Ruatoki, ctc.) this year yielded £130 7s (>d. which is an increase of £24 Is lOd over last year's figure. That would appear to be only a small amount but it is almost as great as the total received in 1932, when sali's realised £29 13s. A comparison in figures for the last few years shows the steady soaring of receipts. In 193 d sales ! amounted to £47 lis and in 1937 they made a further leap to £70 12s. The increase in the following year brought the figure to £101 8s 6d and in 1939 it reached £106 Bd., The result is a tribute to the very willing Ladies Committee who organised and operated the Anzac emblem sale and the public also is to be commcnded on giving more 1 freely. j
