WHAKATANE CLUB PRESIDENT'S REVIEW In his annual report to the members of the Whakatane Old Girls' Basketball Club, 'the president, Mr A. Webb, stated as under: — During the past year the Whakatane Old Girls* CLub teams besides giving a good account of themselves in the local competitions, have played some first class games against outside teams. On last King's Birthday a team journeyed to Tauranga where some splendid games resulted. The pliayers excelled themselves in team work and individual effort; and their brilliant display resulted in this team winning the rose bowl presented by | Mr Wilkinson, Mayor of Tauranga. On 22nd July the members played in most of the matches held daring the day as representatives of our Association, and towards the end of the day the Old Girls' team played Rotorua A Reps. A splendid game resulted in Rotorua just winning by 10 goals to 9. At the Rotorua Tournament in early September the Whakatane Old ; Girls' team played five games,, winning two and scoring 26 goals against 3i> —a difference of 9 goals. I desire to stress the importance of goal throwing, for throughout the tournament many games were lctet through the failure of the goal players, some through nervousness,, excitement and insufficient practise. I suggest that this club purchase a goali with a small ring for practise in the school grounds. Basketball in New Zealand is fast becoming the most popular game for men and women, and it is a great pity that in Whakatane there is only one club with two teams. I conclude my report with the hope that the Whakatane Old Girls'. Club in the 1940 season will excel 'ast year's brilliant effort-
