FAREWELL EVENING

GATHERING AT WAIMANA - (Beacon Correspondent) A most enjoyable evening was spent in the Waimana Hall last week the function being to bid farewell to Mrs William Wardlaw, "Raroa," Waimana, who is leaving the district to reside at Mt. Albert, Auckland. Flag 500 was played till 10.30 p.m and then an hour or two of dancing was enjo3 r ed by all. The music was contributed by Mrs King and an extra played by Miss M. Wardlaw, was much enjoyed. The winners of the cards were: Mr J. Mitchell, Mr I. Savage. Mr N. Craig and Mr A. Wardlaw. Mr H. Wardlaw most capably acted as M.C. for the evening. After a delicious home-made supper had been served by the married ladies, Mr Mitchell in a neat speech* on behalf of all present, asked Mrs Wardlaw to come forward and accept a cheque with the best wishes from all, and good health and happiness for many years. He stated how the many acts of kindnesses given to residents of the district by Mrs Wardlaw, will always be remembered, especially during the influenza epidemic, when Mrs Wardlaw turned her home into a hospital. Mrs N .Clark, president of the Women's Institute,, also presented Mrs Wardlaw with a beautiful posy, and a gift from the members, wishing her the best of health and happiness in her future home. Mr T. W. Wardlaw most suitably responded on behalf of his mother, thanking Mr Mitchell and all for the lovely evening and gifts tendered his mother. All joined in singing "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow" and dancing continued until a late hour, when the evening closed with "Auld Lang Syne" and the National Anthem. A. Bell, Luttrell, Boynton, C. Hampton, Fleming, P. Looney (Waiotahi), J. Rust. Misses A. Burnett, B. Bell, E'. Addison, S. Addison, J. McConnell, Wragge, M. Hughes, M. Wardlaw, M. Grover (Hamilton), Amy Ruff, Agnes Ruff, Betty Wardlaw.
