ENGINEER'S REPORT

OPERATIONS FOR MONTH The following is the report of the Borough Electrical Engineer covering the operation of the Borough Electrical scheme etc for the past month, and presented to the Council' on Monday night:— Considerable alterations are being carried out in conncction with the installation of the new 750 KVA transformer at the Council's main sub-station, This necessitates several Sunday afternoon shut doAvns owing to the replacement of all the old poles that are in a bad state. There is also additional switch gear to be installed and this again means re' arrangement of existing equipment. Salonika Street: New poles have been erected in Salonaki Street to carry the heavier cable to supply power, lighting and heating for the new block of Government houses. As soon as the necessary cable comes to hand, this job will be completed. New Service Lines: One new single phase was erected in Victoria Avenue to supply lighting during the month.. New Consumers: The following new consumers installations have been tested and connected to the supply also a number of alterations and additions: Ranges 2, water heaters 2, lighting and heating 3, total consumers 3. Water Works: The pumping plants have been in service every day during the month and are in fair order. Trouble was experienced with the Hillcrest supply to the houses on the higher level during the month. This was caused by a leaking ball valve in one of the tanks and also partly bj r the fact that several- of the consumers have had hose taps fitted to the delivery instead of tfo the tank supply. Building permits, as under, have been issued: Additions to residences 2, additions to shop premises 2, garages 3, additions to sheds 1. Total 11. The value of the buildlings amounted to £1104 12s 6d.

FOREMAN'S REPORT The following report was presented to the Borough Council on Monday night by the Foreman, Mr ,W. Henderson: — Wainui Hillcrest-: Plant and men have been concentrated on this widening and the allocation will be exhausted within the next few days. State Highway: Spray plant was engaged 4 days making repairs and patching ahead of main highways sealing gang. The re-sealing of this highway was supervised and carried out by the Public Works Department. Wharf front carriageAvay has been sprayed with road oil and covered with %in. chips. Playing Area: Equipment repairs were effected and steel and woodwork repainted. Cemetery hedges have been cut and refuse dump levelled. Mowing of street sides is again being carried out. Pedestrian crossing across Strand extension has been painted. Water Supply: Eight neAV connections were made including six State houses in Salonika Street. Water meters have been repaired. Several blowouts in mains have also been repaired. Footpaths cleared and cleaned, grading of streets and roads and general.
