BREACHES OF PROHIBITION ORDERS CONVICTIONS ENTERED In the Magistrate's Court on Wednesday Ruru Kingi (Mr G. Otley) pleaded guilty to a charge of pro* curing liquor whilst, prohibited. A second charge of entering licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order was preferred against Kingi and a similar plea was entered. Constable Fuller said that at 4 p.m. on February 24th he saw defendant, who smelled strongly of liquor, and asked him where he had procured the drink. Defendant gave an unsatisfactory ansvver. Constable Fuller said he had seen Kingi iu the hotel later in the afternoons He did not have liquor in front of him. . . Mr Otley said had been in the district for many years and had always behaved himself. Kingi was fined £1 and 10s costs on the first charge and £1 and £1 Is costs on the second. Met Old Army Friend. Because he entered licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order, Tom Kereti (Mr R. F,. Smith) was fined £2 and costs, £1 Is. Constable Fuller said that on March 2nd he had seen defendant at a bar but he was not drinking and left the premises as soon as requested to do so. Mr Smith said that Kereti was a returned soldier and had met a Euro pean friend„ an old Army associate* who had invited him into the hotel. Defendant was • going- into camp shortly and counsel asked that this fact be taken into consideration by the Magistrate in inflicting the penalty. Kereti was allowed one month in which to pay. Orders Cancelled. Mr R. F. Smith appeared for both Wi Sydney Hirimi and Edward Donald Stewart when they appealed for cancellation of prohibition; orders. The police offered no objection in either case and the orders were cancelled.
