OFFENCES AGAINST TRAFFIC REGULATIONS . I 55 M.P.H. WITH A LOAD OF TIMBER Inspector J. H. Delves, represented the Transport Department in pro secutions in the Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. Charging Frank Shuter with operating a heavy motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 25 m.p.'h., the Inspector said that at 3.45 p.m. on January 8, he was at Rotoma, where a line of traffic was held up, awaiting release over new tar.-sealing. Defendant, driving a multi-axled vehicle loaded with timber, -was half a mile ahead of witness shortly after the traffic had been released. At one stage, said Inspector Delves he had accelerated to a speed of 55 m.p.h. in an endeavour to pass and stop Shuter, but even then he had not been able to do so. On the < Te Teko straight defendant's speed was 45 m.p.li. and the Inspector had to travel a total of 14 miles before he was able to stop him. The penalty was £3 and the costs 12s. Alfred Thomas Doidge was fined £1 and 12s costs when the Inspector detailed his non-observance of a"r stop signal. , * Lance Gordon Cullen parked his car within six feet of a fire plug on the night of February 9, and this cost him 10s and 10s costs. Carrying 100 sheep in a lorry without a consignment note made for the imposition of a £1 fine on Albert Edgar Sunkel. In addition he was ordered to pay 12s costs. Harry Edwin Charles Bell drovea y car on the night on January 12, and . as the car had only one headlight and no tail-light at all, he was fined £1 and £1 2s costs. The remaining . cases concerned sundry charges of riding bicycles without lights. Sydney D. Yardley* Herbert Druby, Joseph Butterworth , and George Whalley were each fin-> ed 5s and 12s costs. Thomas Fergus son, 5s and 10s costs, and Russell Stokes 12s costs.
