AID FOR HOSPITAL
SHORTAGE OF FRUIT DONATIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED On February 21st the BEACON published a sub-deader in which it was suggested that those with fruit to spare could do no better than donate it to the hospital. The response to the suggestion was good but a reminder would not be out of place. There are private sections in Whakatane and farms in the country districts where fruit is being allowed to fall from the trees and rot on the ground. To the individual owner, who has more than sufficient for his own use, this may seem to be an insignificant matter. But what of the waste collectively? The hospital is badly in need of fresh fruit and has to purchase a supply. This should not be necessary when there is an over-abund-ance and such an apparent wastage. Aparti from the saving of cost (and the subject of costs interests all ratepayers), the gift would be appreciated by the patients. Herein lies the chance for the Good Samaritans of Whakatane to prove themselves. If it is found impossible to deliver fruit, communication with the Matron would ensure arrangements being made to collect it.
