SUCCESSFUL DANCE

RED CROSS SOCIETY'S FUNCTION SECOND ECHELON MEN AS GUESTS On March 20 th the Whakatane Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society staged a dance in the Winter Show Hall in aid of the Sick and Wounded Fund. The initial of a seriies which it is proposed to hold at monthly intervals throughout the winter, the dance attracted a capacity crojwd. Upwards of fifty men of the Second Echelon, who, together with their partners, were the guests of the committee, attended the function . Modern and old-time dancing was enjoyed to the first-class music of Glen Hayden's Orchestra and supper was served by an extremely capable ladies committee. Messrs Ferry and Walker were popular M.C.'s. The proceeds of the function, £30 nett, is indicative of the support accorded the Society and the prospects for the series are bright.
