RETURN FROM ISLAND

MATATA SOLDIER ON LEAVE SERVICE IN OUTPOST Advice has been received by Mi* and Mrs Schick, of Matata, that their son. Private E. A. (Archie) Schick, will arrive on leave from Fanning Island within the next lew days. Private Schick left New Zealand with a special force of 30 men for a destination vaguely given as 'some in the Pacific" two days before the outbreak of Avar. In a letter to his parents in October, he stated that life on the Island was good and the troops were 'in the pink." At that time orders had been received for the troops to stand by for embarkation to New Zealand in order to join up with the Expeditionary Force, but the garrison was maintained on the Island and this will be the first leave enjoyed by the men.
