FRIDAY'S PLUNKET APPEAL
Friday's appeal for the local branch of the Plunket Society is one which must commend itself to the population as a whole. In the face of the widespread appeals for Patriotic and Red Cross purposes, the committee 'is finding it increasingly difficult to obtain recognition. Yet the work lis great, and a one. "Saving the babies" is a slogan whiich changed the New Zealand birth mortality from the lowest in the Avorld to the proud position of the worlds best. In Whakatane, a little group of lady enthusiasts have carried on the work year after year, gladly givd'ng their services free in order that expert attention may be given the vital undertaking of bringing into the world young New Zealanders, who will., be cared for, reared and nourished in the correct manner. In spite of other (ialls the public are asked to respond freely to this very necessary cause, and to give liberally to a .movement which is dedicated only to the future of New Zealand*
