KIRKBRIDE'S ROAD
LEGAL ACTION PENDING LONG STANDING DISPUTE Writing on behalf of Mr G. Kirkbride;, of Waimana, Mr C. A. Suckling gave formal notice of his cli- 1 ent's intention to lodge a complaint under the Public Works Act requiring the Council to appear before a Magistrate, to show why it (the Council) should not issue a notice in respect of certain gates* fences and/or other obstructions on Kirkbride's Road, the subject of the petition of Kirkbride and others lodged on February 21. The matter was briefly discussed by the Council and referred to its legal adviser for action. Under the same heading, Mr EL A. Wardlaw, wrote bringing to the notice of the Council that Mr G.j Kirkbride had failed to close the gates on the road running through his propertj' and had not done so since his petition was thrown out bj- the Court. The Council was requested to take action, the writer undertaking to furnish witnesses. The Council decided that Mr Kirkbride be advised that he commits a -serious oll'ence when he refrains from closing such gates and that he be respectfully referred to the Council's previous correspondence on this point. A further letter from Mr Kirkbride, dated March 3 B y , requested information as to the amount of money expended from the Government grant of £120 and the subsidy (£120) Avhioli was allocated for the completion of his outlet road. The letter also drew the attention of the Council to the. possibility of slips; on the road unless action was taken to prevent the burning off of adjacent scrub growth. It was decided to supply the in-> formation desired.
