ELECTRICAL ENGINEER'S REPORT The folloAving is the report submitted by the Borough Electrical Engineer,, Mr F. W. Lysaght, at the council's meeting: Headworks: The plant has iioav been completely closed doAVn and a section of the transmission line removed at Edgccumbe. The section of line from Edgccumbe to the headAvorks Avill have to be dismantled and all the equipment carted in to the Borough. This Avill be quite a large job and at the present time it Avill be impossible to carry this Avorlc out oAving to the amount of new "work that has to be done in the Borough area. NeAV Secondary Lines: New poles and cable ha\ 7 e been erected in Bridge Street. This has been found necessary OAA'ing to increased loading in this area. The pole replacement is due to the number of faulty poles found. The corner pole at Sisam's corner is being re-erected some distance from the corner and a further new pole is being put in so that should the Council decide to cut the corner back' at any future date, no further alterations Avill be necessary. A number of new. poles haA'C been carted and fitted for the new extensions in Salonika Street. NeAV Service Lines: The folloAving new service lines .have been erected during the month: 1 three phase in Russell Street to supply range, hotAvater and lighting; 1 single phase in Landing Road to supply lighting and beating; 1 3 phase in the Strand to supplj' range, hotwater and lighting; 1 single phase in McAlister Street to supply lighting and heating; 1 3 phase in Merritt Street to supply range and lighting: 1 3 phase in King Street to supply range, hotAvater and lighting; 1 single phase in Quay Street to supply poAver. The following neAV consumers' installations have been tested and con neeted to the supply, also a number of alterations and additionsRanges 5; lighting 7. WaterAYorks Department: The pumping plants luwe been in service every day during the month Avith the exception of Sunday, Febi nary 25, 1949, and are in tair oi deer. On Sunday, February 2', the river Avas in Aery high flood and the flood Avater had to be removed from the floor of the pumping station every half hour. The staff had to stand by for some 12 hours, 'ready to lift the electrical equipment should it be necessary. Building Permits; The folloAving building permits have been issued during the month: Additions to residences 1; additions to shed 1, total 2. The value of the additions amounted to £70.
