TRAFFIC BREACHES
LONG AND VARIED LIST TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT'S PROSECUTIONS Mr E. L. Walton, S.M.„ was on the Bench when the Transport Department proceeded against numerous offenders in the Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. Inspector J. H. Delves represented the Department in all cases. For riding a bicycle without a light, Leonard Sidney Wakelin was fined 5s and ordered to pay lis costs Parking over a fire plpg in the Strand on December 13th cost Maxwell Noel Bright 10s and 12s costs. On a charge of operating a with defective lights, Gerald George Clark was fined £1 and 12s. The fact that he had no warrant of fitness was responsible for another 10s and 12s and the charges against this defendant were completed when a fine of £2 and 12s costs was recorded a 9 a penalty for exceeding the 30 miles per hour limit. Wirimu McCaulay could not produce a warrant of fitness when requested by the Traffic Inspector and as this was his second offence under the heading he was fined £1 and £1 15s costs. Another Maori, Jim Fox, appeared to answer three charges. (1) No warrant of fitness; (2) Did not produce license on demand; (3) Exceed ed the 30 m.p.h. speed limit in the Strand. Defendant pleaded not guilty to numbers 1 and 2 and guilty to number 3. He was coin victed and ordered to pay 10s costs on the first two and fined £1 an<| 10s costs for speeding. Maurice Frederick Lees did not have a warrant of fitness and that cost him 10s with 12s additional. Because he had no heavy traffic license a further fine of £2 and 12$ was inflicted. The same penalty was incurred by Messrs Boon, Sullivan and Luke, Ltd. on a similar charge. Leonard Nicholas Standisli cairied on a goods service in a controlled area without having the license in the lorry concerned. A fine of £1 was imposed, with costs, 12s.
Ivopa Biddle's license Avas cancelled last year and because he ! drove a truck at Ruatoki on the 9th of January he Avas fined £1 and ordered to pay £1 Is costs. £1 Avas the fine imposed on Charles Griffiths Johnson for exceeding the speed limit in King Street. On an identical charge Henry Seddon Allen was fined £2. Alfred Hatcher Sand Arona Paul Avere fined £2 10s for exceeding the 30 m.p.h. in King Street and exessive speed in the same locality was responsible for a £2 fine being inflicted on Arthur Charles Lang. In all cases the costs amounted to 12s. Dangerous Driving. A charge of driving in a manner dangerous to the public Avas preferred against John William Bishop. In evidence, Inspector Delves said he had been parked near Messrs Armstrong's garage at 9.15 p.m. on January 12th, and had seen defendant endeavour to pass two cars proceeding out of town. A car was approaching towards toAvn and defendant had to swing in between the two he was passing. If the rear car driver had not anticipated the move and stopped his car there would have been an accident. Defendant asked Inspector Delves several questions and the Magi's-' trate imposed a fine of £1 and 12s costs.
