TRADE WITH FRANCE
IMPORTERS' SUGGESTION MESSAGE TO MINISTER The Bureau of Importers has suggested to the Government that it might follow the lead of Great Britain by stimulating trade with France. The following letter was despatched to the Minister of Customs: "You will have noticed no doubt that recently the British and French Governments have, been co-operat-ing in the matter of facilitating trade relationships .with a view to mutual assistance. » "The existing state of war calls for everj r effort on the part of th,e Allies to assist one another as far as possible, and for this reason the co-operation between the British and French Governments is to be commended. In view of the present restrictions of trade imposed on France by virtue of the Import Control Regulations 19-.JS, this organisation suggests that the mcnt should fall into line with actions taken overseas by facilitating trade with our Ally, France. "We trust you will give this request your favourable considera 1 - tion.*' The Minister's reply is as follows: "Replying to your letter of 18tlx January regarding trade with. France I wish to inform you that the suggestion of the Bureau in that connection has been noted and you may be assured that subject to the limitations necessitated by existing circumstances the Government will give every consideration to the possibility of extending trade between France and this country." The Bureau intends following this up with the idea of fostering trade with our Ally, France.
