SELECTED BUTTER
EXAMINATION BY FACTORY MANAGERS Managers of various dairy factories in the Auckland province assembled at the Government store* on King's Wharf last week for the purpose of examining selected butter which had been kept in cold storage for the past three months, and they commented favourably or> its condition. The examination was a periodical one, and its object was to give the managers an idea as to how their butter was likely to open up on the British market. It was explained by the chief Government grader, Mr E. G. Woods that selected butters were held in cold storage for three months, thi3 period coinciding with the period which elapsed between tha time of manufacture of butter and its marketing in Great Britain. Questioned as to the position as to taints in butter, Mr Woods explained that feed taints from certain districts were always with them, but these could be remedied to a large extent by the scientific rotation of stock. During the past spring feed tang in butter in some districts lasted longer than, usual# this being due probably to an excessive growth of clover.
