ONE CASE OF SPEEDING

Traffic Inspector J. H. Delves, representing the Transport Department, prosecuted several offenders against the traffic regulations in the Police Court on Wednesday, when Mr K. J>. "Walton, S.M., was on the Bench. For failing to have current warrants of fitness Hone Morehu Nuku (10s and £1 Is costs), Colin Roy Ran by (10s and 12s costs), Harry Lock Bow ditch (10s and 12s costs), Douglas McKenzie (10s and Us costs), Adrian Doherty (10s and 12s costs), were convicted. For riding a bicycle without having a red rellector fitted, Donald Print was lined os and 12s costs. On a charge of parking near a /ire plug, Gilbert Boyle was fined 10s and 10s costs, Inspector Delves stating that the car was parked in a prohibited position for tliree-quar tors of an hour. On the same count WilliVim Ar— buckle was fined 10s and 12s costs. Fine for Speeding. The Inspector gave evidence that lie had followed defendant at a speed of 40 miles per hour along the main road up to King Street and when passing the shops the speed was 15 miles per hour, when Joseph Zahara (Mr Otley) was charged with exceeding the speed limit. Mr Otley said defendant did not realise his speed. A fine of £2, with 10s costs, was imposed.

A plea of guilty through ignorance was entered by Geoi'ge Augustus Sykes when he appeared to answer a charge of not possessing a heavy traffic license. Inspector Delvss stated that defendant had for years operated a light truck for which a license was not required. When he had purchased his present vehicle he had not appreciated the fact that a license was necessary. Defendant said he had bought the truck and had thought that everything was in order. "Under the circumstances you will be fined half the usual amount," [said the Magistrate. A fine of £1 with 12s costs was inflicted. Failing to Keep Left. Constable F. M. Fuller prosecuted in the case of Mohi Hotene, who was charged with,failing to keep to the left of roadway. The constable stated he had received word of an accident. He had proceeded to the place and had found that defendant had been on the right-hand side of the road. Marks showed that he had been within one foot of the extreme right-hand edge. Hotene was fined £1, and £1 costs.
