CHILDREN'S NON-ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL PAY COSTS $ Oliarges brought by the Education Department against Maoris of Te Teko were heard in the Magistrate's Court on Wednesday before .M■ Mr Barry said that t ne' : fieadrfi'aster- '"aiffigc Teko had •difficulty in getting the Maori children to attend school. In some cases, after warnings, the attendance improved; in others it did not. Mr B. S. Barry said tlvat he didn't know anything of the circumstances. He had had a telephone message that morning from a representative of the defendants requesting him to appear and in all cases to plead guilty. In the following cases the defendant was ordered to pay 19s costs. Pakeha Tarei, Makarita Tahere, Parakuka Te Hura, Eruera Rewiti, Renata Hatata, Hainu Te Karaka, Teira Himone, Raimona Paraha, Pi t a Waiari, Johnny Anderson. Costs of £1 2s were recorded against Manihera Te Whctu, and the only line indicted was in the case of Parakuka Te Hura, the penalty being 5s and tlie costs 355.
