in consequence of a complaint received from Mr Walker that Maoris had stolen the food lie interviewed accused some days later. Accused had said that he was one of a party that had gone round lo the back verandah of Mr Walker's house arid he had seen the food in the safe.: He admitted taking the leg of unit- 1 ton and the stew. In regard to the cartridges accused had s;ri:l that he had thought the box contained biscuits and would not hav? taken it had he known the true contents.
