Stag Shot in Lake. A Rotoiti potato patch proved the downfall of fine 10-pointer stag at Christmas. Surprised in the patch near the shore of the lake, and finding its escape by other means cut olf, the stag made for the w r ater and commenced to swim out from the shore directly across the lake. It was pursued in a boat by Mr J. W. Cochrane and shot from the boat. A lassoo was thrown over the antlers and the carcase towed ashore. An Historic River Canoe. Some time ago Mr R. Hatrick pre sen ted the Alexander Museum, Wanganui, with a 65ft canoe called "Te Pariki." It was used in the days before river steamers to carry pasj sengers, wool and bridge material i down the Wanganui River. While the authorities were waiting for a suitable opportunity to move the great canoe from amidst the toitoi and rushes on the river bank, vandals spent their energies in destroying one end. Ultimately half of it was lodged in the museum,*-and the other half went to a . repair shop. Now the itwo halves have been-fit-ted together !and there are six canoes, in good order, housed in the Wanganui Museum,
