SCOUTS FOR CAMP
BAY OF PLENTY DISTRICT
COMMENCES THURSDAY NEXT
Upwards of one hundred scouts, cubs and their officers from the Bay of Plenty will leave on Thursday, January 11, bound for the annual District Camp to be held this year at Ngaio, Wellington, where they will not only have the opportunity to camp for a fortnighi and further their scouting but will be able on various occasions to visit the Centennial Exhibition.
The camp will be directed by District Scoutmaster S. F. Miller assisted by Scoutmaster J. M. MacTavish Avho will be in charge of the scouts from Opotiki and Whakatane, Scoutmaster A. C. Wright in charge of the scouts from Te Puke, Tauranga and Paengaroa. Scoutmaster J. Waititi in charge of the scouts from Maketu and Paroa, Scout master A. R. N. Briggs in charge of the scouts from Taneatua and Onepu, while the cubs are in the charge of Cub Mistresses B. Fagan and Nola Washer of Te Puke. Troop Leaders Ken Raymond and Henry Foreman will act as quartermasters. All boys must have complete uniform including his stave —not a broom handle. Maori scouts are asked to bring a pui pui. To eliminate unnecessary spending of money whilst on the train, all are askeel to bring a lunch with mug in their haversack. Plans are under way so that the boys may have tea en route which will be provided by scouts in the vicinity of the railway stations. Gifts of potatoes (in sugar bags) or other vegetables and jam will be appreciated. While in Wellington the campers will assist in the production of two concerts, one at Ngaio, the other at Johnsonville. The District Scoutmaster would like to point out that there is no minimum qualification, save being in good health, so as to enable all the scouts and cubs in the Bay to attend. At the present time more than one hundred applications have been received and according to all reports this year's camp will exceed any achievement of past years. Every Scout and Cub attending the camp will be insured against accident by the Government Life Assurance department. The camp will be pitched on selected ground approved by the Dominion Headquarters for a period of twelve days. The boys will arrive home on Thursday, January 25.
