CAR ACCIDENT
FORTUNATE ESCAPE FROM INJURY * CARS BADLY DAMAGED A lucky escape from serious injury was experienced by a party of young Paengaroa people who were iproceeding' to Rotorua on Saturday •evening for the New Year celebra'tftens in a car driven by Mr J. SingTleton. The accident occurred near the "20 mile peg on the main highway when the car driven by Mr Singleton collided aliilost head-on with a t 'Car proceeding Jn the opposite direction. At the time of the accident a heavy vehicle was ahead of Mr .'Singleton's car and the dust raised from the loose surface road reduced "visibility to a minimum. Both cars were badly damaged at 1 the front tjgid were unable to proceed on their "journey. The danger of fire was obviated with the throwing of loose pumice from the road on to the locked engines of the cars, which were later towed into Te Puke.
