WHAKATANE'S RESPONSE
CALL FOR SERVICE ANSWERED
ENLISTMENTS IN SPECIAL FORCE When the New Zealand Government offered tc furnish a body of men for service with the Allied Forces, as part of this country's contribution towards the stemming of the Nazi hordes, it was with the knowledge that the men of New Zealand would respond to the call ior volunteers. They did so—magnificently —and the fifiOO required Avere forthcoming on the first day, all recruiting officers throughout the country being swamped Avith the numbers anxious to enroll. Enlisting at this first call for volunteers to form the Ncav Zealand Special Force avcvc these men of the Whakatane district, eager to do their bit for the cause of the Empire and the preseiwation of democracy. As this Avill be the only opportunity of taking a representative photo graph all thlose who can possibly make it, are asked to be at the rendezvous not later than 10.30 a.m.
