THE WEEK-END STORM
HIGH SEAS At OHOPE TOTAL OF 1.76 INCHES OF RAIN Fanned by a strong breeze on vtrclay afternoon heavy rain developed storm proportions during the night and on Sunday town and district experienced one of the most consistent gales of the year. The rain recorded was 1.76 inches pi - actically all of which fell during Sunday when the storm was at its height. At Ohope Beach the seas reached the highest point recorded for many months, the waves this morning lapping the sandbanks, against the road way. The surf was in itself a spec- * tacle worth seeing, while foam, swept high and dry the wind, lined the dunes. The bar this morning was absolutely unworkable, the rollers being fifteen footers which broke well over the beftcons „
