THEFT OF BICYCLE
PROBATION FOR YOUTH
RESTITUTION ORDERED
In the Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, Moko Hunia, aged 18, farmhand, Avas charged Avith the theft of a bicycle at Edgecumbe on October 25th. Hunia pleaded guilty and represented by Mr R. F. Smith.
Constable F. M. Fuller, in outlining the case, said that Hunia, who was employed at Awaken, had stolen the bicycle after a visit to the pictures on the night of October. 25, He had at first de.iied the charge but had later admitted it. The accused was below the mental standard for his age.
Mr Smith explained that Hunin was suffering from arrested mental development. As this was a first offence, counsel submitted that it could be met Avith a conviction and discharge. Hunia was admitted to probation for 12 months and ordered to make a pa3 r ment of £2 2s fid, the cost of repairs to the bicycle.
