Paroa v Whakatane. This match was played on the Paroa wicket Whakatane's first strike produced only 45 runs to which Paroa replied with 114 for 9 wickets (declared) Gillam in this innings took 7 wickets for 16 runs off eight overs. Coutts also bowled well for Whakatane taking 6 wickets for 4ft off 12 overs. Only 6 overs were required to dismiss Whakatane in the second knock, Gillam and Moore each bowling three overs claiming 5 wickets for 4 runs and 4 for 3 runs respectively. It was a surprisingly poor display on Whakatane's part even though the game was play ed on a wicket definitely not fit for competition cricket.
