EDGECUMBE INSTITUTE

MONTHLY MEETING TO TREASURER The monthly meeting of the Edge -cumbe Women's Institute was held t>n Tuesday. Mrs Le Lievre presided and there were 30 members present. "The meeting opened with the singing of the Ode to Friendship. Arrangements were made to hold a 'Christmas tree party for members' children in December. Miss J. Hall who has been W.I. 'treasurer for four years, was then presented with a bouquet and a basket of gifts from members in honour of her approaching marriage. Miss Hall in a very pleasing speech thanked all present for their gifts and good wishes. A competition "Guessing the contents of the par- . eels" was won by Mrs Hodson-

Mrs A. Hawken than gave a most interesting talk on her trip to Germany with humorous incidents as well as graphically describing the scenic and architectural beauty of the countries through which she journeyed. This talk was much enjoyed and Mrs Hawken was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and presented with a bouquet.

Mrs Rutherford of Otakiri W. 1.then gave a most interesting demonstration of hairpin work. This was followed with keen interest by many who learned to do the wo A. A- collection was made for the Leper Fund. Baskets were on sale from the Blind Institute and were in good demand.

Afternoon tea was served by Mrs J. Le Lievre, Miss M. Mex ( ted, Miss N. Goldsmith and Miss Pepperell.

Competition results were as follows: Cream Puffs, Mrs Pepperell 1, Miss Pepperell 2. Mrs Brady 3. Soft Toys, Mrs Pepperell 1, Mrs Snelling 2, Mrs Le Lievre 3. Best flower in garden, Mrs Hodson (Carnation) 1, "Mrs Wilson (Rose) 2, Mrs Pepperell (Delphinium) 3.
