TODAY'S APPEAL
RED CROSS SOCIETY
WHAKATANE SUB-CENTRE
Tn response to the appeal of His Worship the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, the Whakatane Sub-branch of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Society, met last Wednesday and decided to run a Flag Day Appeal or. Friday (to-day). The proceeds will be devoted to the purchase of ma terial for necessities for the men and camp and their general welfare and comfort, and it was felt by the members that an appeal for so worthy a cause could not go unheeded. It was deckled to make a house to house canvass, also a street collection in the Strand to-day and to have a Paddy's Market. A shop for this purpose has been made available in the Whakatane Hotel! Building through the generosity of Sir Ernest Davis. Donations of vegetables, flowers, cakes, sweets, etc. at the shop any time on Friday will be very welcome. The shop will remain open during the evening and nn earnest appeal is made to the public to afford it every support. The ladies present included Mesdames W. Sullivan, Jarrett, Hayter, Fletcher-Cole, Appleby, Rowan, Soutliey, Rangi, Shapley, C. Armstrong Grayling, Searle, Gaul ton, Luxton, Hall, W. Bridger, Tippett, Prideaux Sloane, Canning Senr., Ramson Senr, E. Armstrong, .Tames, Pearse and Miss Tippett. Apologies were received from Mes dames Macklow, Fraser, Coislcv, Gartshore, Savage, Runciman, Suteli(Ye, Buddie, Berry, S. Roberts, H. Armstrong, and Miss Schofield.
