RYEGRASS SEED

PROSPECTS IN GISBORNE DISTRICT A — An increase in the area for the harvest of ryegrass seed in the Gisborne district is expected this season, but it is problematical whether the cereal crop will be greater in xiew of there being heavier bottom growth weeds, which increases, dress ing losses. The extent of the crop, however, will depend a great deal on the weather up to harvest time. Market prospects appear encouraging for the Gisborne crop will come on a bare local market. Supplies from the Gisborne district sold read ily last season when Poverty Bay ■seed had a great advantage in germination tests over that from the rest of the Dominion and the small -carry-over in Gisborne was readily -absorbed during the spring.
